In this 3-hour lesson, learn to play the Chinese drum, the Malay Kompang, and the Bhangra Dhol. Learn how to cultivate a better sense of rhythm and create vibrantly organised sounds and dynamic rhythms. Do not worry if you do not have these drums! Finish the class by sharing a video of you playing the rhythms using objects you can find at home.

The Malay kompang is a traditional handheld drum often played during happy and joyous occasions. In this 3-hour lesson, you will not only learn to play the kompang but you will also learn about the rich and unique history related to the kompang. Sri Warisan is a performing arts company founded by renowned cultural Medallion recipient, Madam Som Said. Sri Warisan, formed in 1997, is one of the pivotal forces in Singapore’s Malay dance scene. Blending rich traditional forms with contemporary techniques is Sri Warisan’s trademark. Participating in more than 100 international events and festivals in Belgium, Brunei, Canada, China, France, Greece, Holland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, London, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and United States of America. Sri Warisan collaborated with other Arts Organizations including Jigri Yaar Bhaskar Arts, Apsaras Arts, Siong Leng Association and Dance Ensemble Singapore. Singapore Multi Ethnic Dance Ensemble repertoire includes Dance Harmony is specially created by the Cultural Medallion recipients Mdm Som Said, Mdm Yan Choong Lian and Mdm Neila Sathyalingam. This repertoire has been travelled to more than 100 cities around the world including New York, Spain, France, Korea, Canada, China, Greece, Holland, India and Italy.

​In this 4-hour class, learn the basics of keys, beats and melody. You will be shown how to shape, mix and arrange sound according to a mood of effect you would like to create. You will explore the type of music you want to make. You will also learn how music can be used as a tool to evoke emotion such as in film etc. and how to master your sound that best suits the mood you would like to create. Finish the class by producing your own piece of music based on your unique sound
